Hollywood Town Council Share Platforms at Debate

Hollywood mayoral and Town Council candidates will meet next week for the first and only scheduled debate ahead of the June primary election.

The St. Paul Community Chamber, a subsidiary of its larger Parent Organization-Southeastern Chamber of Commerce will host the mayoral debate 6:30 p.m. and the council debate 7:30 p.m., Monday May 13th at the Links at Stono Ferry Clubhouse, 4612 Stono Links Dr, Hollywood, SC.

Mark Peper, a Hollywood resident, Chamber member, and CEO of Peper Law Firm in West Ashley will moderate. The two mayoral candidates and four Council candidates are all expected to attend, organizers said Tuesday.

Current Mayor Jacquelyn Heyward is seeking re-election, and has a new opponent Councilman John Dunmyer III, whose council seat is now vacant since he entered the race.

Other council seats up for grabs are Althea Salters, a Charleston County School District employee, and Eddie Scott, a local entrepreneur. 

New candidates to the small town political scene are Handy Miles, a counselor with Charleston County School District, Trey Willis Sr., a local project manager with Landmark Construction, Chardale Murray, owner of Murray’s Mortuary in North Charleston and Mary Harley an MUSC employee. 

Following opening statements, Peper will ask each candidate to address their positions on affordable housing within planned residential development, bridging association gaps within the community, positions on attracting more small businesses and commerce to the area. Other hot topics centered around this election are water and sewer challenges and other economic issues. The candidates will be able to rebut one another.

The St. Paul Community Chamber is  St. Paul Community Chamber was formed in the Fall of 2017 and is a chartered Division of its parent organization- Southeastern Chamber of Commerce. The divisional Chamber was created to serve and represent business residents of the St. Paul Community, encompassing the towns of Hollywood, Ravenel and Meggett.


This Chamber works to enhance the community of neighborhoods and businesses it represents, through advocacy and community involvement with a commitment to diversity and conservation. .
